Artist Statement

Something that always fascinated me was the idea of living deep below the ocean surface. This led me to set my structure in the far future, where humanity has began colonizing other planets. Many planets have surfaces covered entirely in water, so this was the perfect setting for my ideas. I began by mentally planning out a much larger complex than I ended up making, being a series of spheres attached to the ocean floor, with tubes connecting them. The final product I finished designing contained the landing pad, which would recieve supplies from shuttles and rockets sent down by a space station in orbit, with living spaces, fuel reserves, and a control center attached. An airlock located on top of the landing pad allows for cargo to be quickly and efficiently processed down below. The living space is located below the distribution and storage center, containing an elevator, two stores, and multiple floors for recreation and living. The space below is split into 4 rooms and a general recreation area. Each room contains a window looking into the ocean. I modeled the center area after a hotel hallway with soft lighting. The dome overall is made of glass, thick enough to withstand the pressure of the ocean. It also has a circular light at the very top of the dome.
