Artist Statement

In this work, I depicted the relationship between scavenger fish and the remains of dead whales. The rotten apple with a whalebone spine and small fish hanging down to feed on it serves as a powerful metaphor for the scavenger species that feed on the whale fall. The apple, often associated with decay, mirrors the decomposition process of the whale's carcass. Through this artwork, I depicted the intricate cycles of life and death and the commensalism relationship in the ocean.
