Artist Statement

The symbiotic relationship I aimed to explore was exploitation. A symbiotic relationship is an interaction between two organisms where one benefits but is harmed. The fish on the stand originally has no emotion but is pierced by cracked pieces of a human face mask, evoking a sense of detachment and violation. The mask represents a facade or external identity, symbolizing how humans impose themselves on the fish, causing harm or discomfort. Through this piece, I  highlight the silent suffering of marine life, drawing attention to the exploitation of these creatures by human actions.
