Artist Statement

This artwork reimagines the cleaner wrasse as the bristles of a toothbrush, symbolizing its role in maintaining marine health by removing parasites from larger fish. Just as toothbrush bristles scrub away debris to preserve oral hygiene, cleaner wrasses "clean" their clients, fostering a mutualistic relationship where both benefit—one receiving food, the other staying parasite-free. The focus of this piece is to highlight the often-overlooked but vital roles that small organisms play in sustaining larger ecological systems.
