Artist Statement

This artwork transforms the shark into an automobile, symbolizing its role as a moving shelter and transport for remora fish, depicting the dynamics of commensalism. Just as remoras attach themselves to sharks for protection and effortless travel, the bus-like form emphasizes the shark’s function as both a provider and an unbothered host. The stairs leading up to the shark suggest accessibility, reinforcing the one-sided nature of the relationship—while the remoras benefit from safety and food scraps, the shark remains largely unaffected.
