Artist Statement
I wanted to create a plate that could be used to serve steak with chimichurri. I designed the shape of the plate based on the way I imagine a steak being presented on a plate, giving it an organic and slightly irregular form rather than making it a traditional round or square plate. I wanted the shape to feel more natural and connected to the food it would hold.
The name Steak Chimichurri comes from the meal that inspired the design. I wanted my plate to be both functional and visually interesting, while still being practical for serving food. This image shows my stoneware plate after it was fired in the kiln and before I added the underglaze and glaze. At this stage, I can see the final shape and texture of the clay before adding color and finishing details.
