Artist Statement
In this artwork, I used graphite and charcoal to explore the beauty and complexity of flowers through different shades of black, white, and gray. I focused on creating contrast between the light petals and dark backgrounds to make each flower stand out. Through shading, layering, and detailed lines, I experimented with texture and depth, especially in the petals and centers of the flowers. By overlapping the flowers and changing their sizes and angles, I wanted to create a composition that feels both natural and visually interesting. This piece allowed me to explore how light, shadow, and texture can bring ordinary flowers to life without using color.
