Artist Statement
For my pieces I took inspiration from Betty Boodman with her taller forms where she focuses on them being functional. She also drew inspiration from Italian and Tang dynasty pottery, due to all the traveling she has done, which resonated with me as someone who loves discovering places and seeing the world.
My first piece is a tall two part vase form, glazed with dripped yellow, blue, and turquoise glazes. It was to mimic the Tang dynasty glazing, but also have a tall functional form. (I haven't uploaded the photo yet)
My second piece is a medium height vase with a squiggled top, that I then glazed yellow. With this vase I played with different ways to connect shapes and curves of pieces.
My last piece is a tall vase that I did in two parts. It has an underglaze design of red pinwheels, and has a coated inside of red glaze, and a clear glaze finish on the outside. In this piece I explored designs that don't reflect the curves of the piece, which some of Betty Woodman's pieces illustrate as well. (haven't uploaded the photo yet)
