Artist Statement
This car design draws upon my cultural identity, being from both Hong Kong and Taiwan. I first sought inspiration from the Banyan tree, commonly seen on streets and parks in Taiwan, and incorporated the winding and branching roots into a futuristic skeletal frame. In order to combine these cultures, I imagined this car being in the streets of Kowloon at night surrounded by neon lights from my childhood. Thus, I named this concept car Kowloon Neon 852, to symbolize my childhood filled with neon lights that is embedded within my memory and the essence of the design. The 852 comes from the telephone number of Taiwan, demonstrating how the car is an example of technology and progress.
