Artist Statement
For this collaborative assignment, our aim was to communicate a specific concept relating to the idea of connection, using exclusively carboard and wire. Rather than a more abstract figure, Me, Immy, and Chloe decide to create a simplified human body around 1/2 real size, connected by slits in cardboard and wrapping metal wire through the piping. Our primary concept is to showcase the connections with in the human body, and how each moving, working part is put together to make a functioning being. One way that we helped to represent this, is the interactive nature of Geoffrey. The limbs are bendable and the tubes have enough slack, allowing for a variety of movement to be simulated. Although engineering the final project to adhere to our concept of bodily connection was a bit challenging, having several other collaborators to grow ideas and work with really helped enhance the quality of the product.
