For this assignment, I chose the name "Panoptes" as a reference to the myth of the peacock's origin, Argus Panoptes. I initially struggled a lot on the decision making regarding design components. My decided color palette was super mercurial, switching from dark red, brown, light blue, and black. Eventually, once I finished the outer “layer” of black-blue, I determined on gradual layers of color going blue -> red, incorporating highlights of vibrant counterparts to complement the muted tones. I’m fairly relieved it worked out to a coherent image in the end, as I’ve never really experimented with highlights in acrylic. Another early issue was the shape of the pod-structures in the center. I tend to prefer a certain amount of symmetry between lines, and avoid definite angles. This idea contradicted a lot with my charcoal-beginning sketch, that had a lot of sharp curving lines and turns. As a result, I consolidated large sections of these scribbles into teardrop shapes so as to not disrupt the shapes.                                             As an art student, this was a pretty unique work for me to complete, given the new canvas dimensions. As the space was a lot greater than i was used to, I ended up creating a lot of choppy brush marks while blending the color layers + highlighting (Don’t look at it too closely please) All in all though, I’m fairly satisfied with the end result, specifically the mix of color.
