Artist Statement

I designed this space to mirror the control booth of the auditorium because it's a place that I feel most comfortable in. I don't get to hang out there often, but when I can, I enjoy it to the fullest. I've worked in there very often due to my involvement with technical theater, so I was able to create it mostly from memory.

The booth is roomy, with windows facing the stage, which makes it a comfortable space to run a show in. Its spacious enough to hang out and relax in, while being enclosed and compact enough to not feel empty. The room itself is about 10 meters across, with small cramped stairways to enter the room. There is around 3 meters of space to walk around in between the tables and shelves, and I often wander around anxiously when operating the lightboard.

One of my favorite parts of the room is the couch, because the crew can hang out and have fun, even during a show. It was made for a past show and was brought into the booth for no reason other than to provide a place to relax. It, alongside the stacks of props and equipment, make the room feel like a safe haven for me, and I can immerse myself fully into the work I do. The lighting can quickly shift from well lit to dim with spots of light, letting me experience both ends of the lighting spectrum. There's also a ladder leading to the catwalk of the auditorium, a space that oozes industrialism with its beams and ventaliation shafts.

The vibe evicts a homey yet industrial feel. The atmosphere of the booth overall makes it one of my favorite places to be.
