Artist Statement
I created this aquatic-themed jewelry collection as a tribute to my love for sea animals, particularly octopuses and blobfish. Often, these two animals are seen as odd and unappealing, therefore I wanted to reshape that view by highlighting their features into wearable form.
The octopus and blobfish rings are intended to give the impression of the animals wrapping around the wearer's finger in an organic way, where the octopus's tentacles are grabbing the wearer's finger and the blobfish somewhat melts onto the finger.
For the blobfish necklace, I wanted to highlight its unique appearance, designing a spherical pendant that features its comical and odd face.
Lastly, the fish necklace symbolizes the life cycle of the ocean through a layered design: a larger fish eating a smaller one, which is in turn eating an even smaller fish.
Through the process, I was able to gain insight into how to operate softwares such as Rhino, Maya and Mudbox. Moreover, I learned how to render each design, add texture to it, and display it.
