Artist Statement
The Hand is meant to show humanity's influence on life and death in nature. This piece, in part, represents deforestation as humanity's influence has become increasingly present in nature, using Mother Earth's natural resources to support humanity's industrial needs. The hand also represents how humanity has, in a sense, replaced the function of trees, which is to act as a home for many different types of organisms and sustain life in nature. From things like animal control to domestication, humanity solidified their power to influence life and death in nature.
