Artist Statement
1. photo 2 named "mountains" moves me because back in arizona, I hiked up the mountains with my mom and brother every weekend. This illustration gives me nostlagia.
2.photo 3 named "kid creativity" surprises me because it's such a simple but powerful painting that remeinds me so much of my childhood. Growing up I didn't have that much technology, so during my freetime I would make a lot origami and draw lots of cartoon characters.
3. Photo 1 named "description of building a boat" makes me want to smile becuase i have memories reading a children's book about a little boy who made a paper boat to an actual boat by using his imagination. I remember those days how I tried using my imagination to create my use my toy duck a boat at my pool.
4.Photo 5 named" lonely girl" makes me want to cry because it relates to me. Growing up I had felt that nobody was talking to me because I was the youngest and had a significant age gap from all my other 4 siblings. As I grew older I felt that I was part of my family as my family members commmunicated to me more maturely. Later on though, all three of my siblings left for college, my brother in highscool was too busy focused on academics, and my mom and dad were working a job. This caused me to feel lonely again, so I started to develop hobbies such as basketball, drawing, origami, and etc.
5.Photo 6 named "freedom of a kid" is a satisfying color paletter because I feel that the light navy blue matches really well with the hints of orange and pink. I feel that this painting is a creative color match
6.Photo 4 named "dark and colorful place "is a cool painting technnque because it uses a vibrant color contrast of red flowers and then goes back to the gloomy and dark atmosphere. It seems to use watercolor splatters, which give a natural and loose texture that isn't forced.
