Artist Statement

This project explores the intersection between digital construction, architectural visualization, and artificial intelligence. The structure was originally designed and built entirely in Minecraft, using the game as both a creative tool and a spatial sketchbook. What began as a block-based environment evolved into a study of atmosphere, materiality, and scale.

Minecraft’s visual language is intentionally simplified. Every surface is reduced to geometric forms and repeated textures, forcing the builder to think primarily about proportion, composition, and spatial rhythm rather than detail. In this project, I used those limitations as a foundation instead of a restriction. The mansion-like interior and surrounding forest landscape were designed to create a sense of isolation, warmth, and realism despite being constructed from basic digital blocks.

After completing the build, I used ChatGPT’s image generation tools to transform and render the scenes into more realistic architectural environments. Through AI-assisted rendering, the harsh geometry of Minecraft was softened into textured wood, stone, natural lighting, and atmospheric depth. The process blurred the boundary between video game architecture and cinematic visualization, turning a virtual construction into something that feels physically inhabitable.

This work is also an experiment in authorship and collaboration between human creativity and generative AI. The design decisions, structure, layout, and environmental storytelling originated from my own building process inside Minecraft, while AI was used as a rendering medium to reinterpret the world through realism. Rather than replacing the artist, the technology acts as an extension of the imagination, translating abstract digital spaces into emotionally resonant images.

Ultimately, this project examines how virtual worlds can become legitimate spaces for architecture, storytelling, and artistic expression in the age of AI-assisted creation.
