Artist Statement

This lizard was created using Autodesk Mudbox, using the default reptile shape as a base. The shape and color of the creature is primarily inspired by the blue-spotted tree monitor, a type of monitor lizard from Indonesia. I modelled the body as more tubular with a shorter neck to fit the monitor lizard's shape. The texture on the top side of the body was made using the stamp tool with a reptillian skin texture and blue color, while the underside remained mostly white. Some of the smaller details, such as the orange eyes and black claws were directly inspired by the blue tree monitor. I also added reflectivity to the eyes to make them more lifelike, or wet. However, the head region was modelled after a regular monitor lizard head which had more defined brows, snout, and vascularity on the neck.
