Artist Statement
Morel Doucet is a Haitian contemporary artist. He uses not only ceramics, but also printmaking and illustration to create his pieces. He says that his pieces "are often richly textured, imbued with narrative fragments, and situated in a diasporic dialogue that transcends borders". Morel Doucet's motive and pieces speak to me as I am part Haitian. I like how his pieces and their names explore aspects of Haitian culture and bring Haitian culture to the forefront. In my piece, I'll take insporation from the traditional Chinese teapots he often takes insporation from and blend it with the textured and natural elements he often includes in his pieces.
