Artist Statement
Monument is a work made of waste from the British ceramics industry. It includes broken plates, cups, jugs, and more. These comments are on overconsumption in today's society. This artwork takes up a large amount of space in the room and has a mountain-like form. The surface is uncut and chaotic, lacking any organization. However, what calls out to me is not the message of overconsumption, but the usage of finished artworks to create something new. I think this is relevant to my own life as I believe several finished chapters of my life, like summer camps, classes, and my friends, have joined together to create who I am today.
