Artist Statement
Poetry has been apart of my life equally as long as art has. I remember my mother would often read to me poems by William Carlos Williams or Shel Silverstein before bed as a child. Throughout my life the magic of poetry, how it could almost paint a scene in your mind, somewhat dissapeared. I found myself thinking it to be dry, or boring, as I now had to analyze every bit of it. I want to use art to bring this "magic" back, and I want to explore how different mediums can convey a message of a poem. I want to use my art to create fantastical and entertaining images inspired from poetry. I want the interpretations to be surprising, or funny, even, and I want to use a wide varity of materials in each of my pieces to convey that you can understand poetry to be whatever you want it to be.
