In all honesty, I wasn't really sure about this project in terms of when I began making it initially. However, it quickly turned into something more personal. I was drawn to the idea of repetition — not just as a visual element, but as a process. I feel like there's something meditative about doing the same action over and over, cutting, arranging. It became like a ritual.
“Ritual of Repetition” is made of foam strips, each one placed in a rhythm that creates movement and tension. There are 8 spirals. Each spiral of foam strips is placed precisely in an abstract and illogical order, each one being a support for the next. The structure feels like it’s reaching, maybe even dancing or stretching upward. I wanted it to feel alive, even though it’s made from something cold and rigid.
As I built it, I started thinking about how repetition shows up in life — in routines, in habits, in the way we try to make sense of things. Sometimes it's comforting, sometimes it feels endless. This piece reflects both of those feelings.
It’s not about perfection — the slight differences between each strip are intentional. They show the human side of the process, the small mistakes and choices that happen along the way. I think that's what makes it feel real.
