Artist Statement

Ever since I was young, night has always been my favorite time of day. There is a comforting peace in its quiet, and a sense of humanity in the stillness of the dark. Night has held me through my loneliest cries and my brightest moments with friends and family. Under a starry sky, even alone, I feel protected and connected, it feels almost as if the night itself is keeping me company. Yet sometimes, even surrounded by people, the same darkness can feel heavy and suffocating, amplifying my loneliness and reminding me of the fragile line between solitude and connection at night.

My sustained investigation aims to explore how oil and color can capture the conflicting emotions of isolation and connection at night. Through the layering and blending of oils, I want to explore how shifting between tones of warmth, coolness, and neon can reflect these fleeting moments of loneliness and closeness. Additionally, I plan to incorporate symbolism to reveal the different aspects of night that cannot be expressed through words. Each piece will examine how night can transform space and emotion, using light and color to reveal the tension and beauty in both solitude and human connection.
