Artist Statement
Introduction: For this blog, I explored three world-class museums and selected a ceramic piece from each that inspires me with its linear motif. After examining a variety of pieces with linear motifs, I gained a greater understanding of how lines and geometric shapes are used to define form and create aesthetic/interesting patterns on the surface of the pieces.
Citation: Kangxi Period, Qing Dynasty. Small covered winepot or teapot. 1662–1772, Soft-paste porcelain painted in underglaze blue, The Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York.
I was inspired by the linear design of the winepot that forms a pattern around the pot. I am inspired by the shapes and curves the artist uses and how the lines are organized. I would like to incorporate the use of patterns around a piece into my future pieces.
