Artist Statement

Item #1: Pendant

The main inspiration for this came from Arcane, in a scene where they showcased a necklace with a spinning pendant. I thought having a piece of jewelry that could move was pretty cool, so I decided to base this design off of that. For the details on the inner section I decided to have multiple rings that sort of resemble a solar system.

Item #2: Name Ring

For this ring I decided to incorporate my own name into the design. I initially started off with P and L, and later tweaked the design of those letters to make the flow of the ring better. This ring is significant because it portrays the idea of change. Even though the physical appearance of something might be different, the meaning and origin of it still remains. I also like this ring for how it carries movement and has a sense of lightness.

Item #3: Date Ring

In this design I decided to contrast the Name Ring by creating a heavier, less fluid design. Seeing the thick ring and lack of movement made me think of a rock. For the details, I decided to add in something “set in stone”. This led me to using my own birth date, as I feel like it’s one of the things about identity that can’t be influenced and connects to the idea of origin. I used roman numerals because I thought that they looked cool.

Item #4: Eye Ring

The idea for this ring initially came from seeing another classmate’s jewelry design about biblical angels. When I saw their design I thought that the eyes looked pretty cool, which led to this ring choice. This ring also carries some significance, as I feel that in today’s times privacy has become more scarce. So, the eyes on the ring are a reminder that everyone’s actions aren’t always kept secret.

Item #5: Dual Ring

This idea also came from another classmate, who talked about incorporating two identities into their jewelry. This led to me thinking about the concept of making two rings join into one. Rather than things like nationality or identity, I thought more about concepts like balance or Yin and Yang. The ring highlights harmony and maintaining balance, which I think are pretty important.
