Artist Statement

Continuing my exploration on animal testing, this evocative sculpture symbolizes the fragmentation of animal identity and suffering caused by testing and experimentation. The distorted and block-like segments of the animal’s face convey a sense of disconnection, inspired by the fragmentation of the body during examinations like MRIs. The rough, textured clay suggests raw vulnerability, while the exaggerated ears emphasize the animal’s silent suffering—forced to listen but unable to speak.

The unnatural, puzzle-like structure alludes to the idea of animals being treated as mere test subjects, their individuality and well-being sacrificed in the name of science. The neutral tones of the clay further strip the figure of life, reducing it to an object rather than a living being.
